Professor Ann Pearson

We are pleased to announce that Professor Ann Pearson has been named a Marine Biology Initiative Investigator by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.  Quoting from the Foundation's web site, this significant award will provide Ann with funding to conduct research to "explore how the trillions upon trillions of microscopic organisms at the base of the ocean’s food webs interact with each other and their environment. It will help scientists understand how the ocean’s most abundant yet smallest organisms affect the movement of nutrients in our oceans. The funding will also provide new insights—and lead to new and exciting questions—about our basic understanding of ocean ecosystems and pressing issues like climate change."  The funding is intended to provide researchers with the freedom and opportunity to engage in research that can push the edge of discovery in this area in ways that more traditional funding sources may be inclined to do.  Please join us in congratulating Ann on this significant honor!
