Brazil has 50,284 species of plants, including native, naturalized and cultivated ones, making Brazil the first amongst the top 10 megadiverse countries, which include Australia, China and India for example. However, in order to know this number now, a long project with the collaboration of more than 900 researchers worldwide has been developed from 2008 up to now. The program REFLORA is responsible for this achievement and includes not only the survey of the Brazilian flora, but also the historical rescue and the Virtual Herbarium for the knowledge and conservation of the Brazilian Flora. The knowledge about the Brazilian flora diversity is online and can be accessed by floradobrasil.jbrj.gov.br.
