**C. Kevin Boyce**, Professor and Chair, Department of Geological Sciences, Stanford University, will present "Flowering Plants and the Evolution of Terrestrial Ecology and Environments."

**Abstract:** The flowers themselves are often the primary focus when considering angiosperm evolution, but the vegetative biology of flowering plants also represents a departure from other plants. I will discuss angiosperm transpiration and assimilation capacities in the context of the fossil record and explore the potential impact of flowering plants on climate, plant ecology, and the carbon cycle.
