As urban populations have exploded across South Asia, trash has become a mounting issue for municipalities. In Delhi, the Ghazipur landfill made headlines as it neared the same height as the Taj Mahal. Behind the scenes, a massive, invisible workforce – an entire informal economy – exists around waste, collecting, recycling and subsisting off what others discard.
