SUMMARY:Harvard Energy Journal Club
DESCRIPTION:
Eric Fell will be presenting "Nuclear Batteries."

Eric Fell will be presenting "Nuclear Batteries."

Nuclear power has been in use for over half a century, generating electricity all over the world by means of nuclear fission. In the future, we might harness fusion processes in next-generation power plants, but there's also another subset of nuclear processes that can be used for electricity generation: so-called Nuclear Batteries. With a slightly misleading name, nuclear batteries encompass a class of technologies that harness the energy released in non-fissioning nuclear decay processes. Some well-known devices that have employed nuclear batteries as power sources include satellites, pacemakers, remote scientific stations, and other more recent technologies which we will cover.

The Harvard Energy Journal Club (HEJC) is open to Harvard and MIT students and postdocs only. A technical background is not needed. Register in advance for the meeting to get the passcode.

	https://harvard.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMuce6ppjkiGtX7Gt_v1d7RzaHEM2o6WTqz

	Contact:
Amos Meeks
