Despite the urgency of the challenge, many governments have failed to enact the transformations necessary to avert disaster. This workshop considers the role of constitutional law and theory both as a cause and a response to the Climate Crisis. We will consider how constitutions structure government decision-making, as well as the role of courts in adjudicating constitutional questions ranging from constitutional rights to the future of the administrative state. This not-for-credit workshop covers practice and theory from a wide range of jurisdictions and legal traditions. It is open to all students and affiliates of HLS and other Harvard schools.
