Join the Mittal Institute for an opening reception for the new exhibit featuring our Spring 2022 Visiting Artist Fellows: Manjot Kaur and Dhara Mehrotra, both visual artists from India. The artists will be joined by Professor Jinah Kim in a panel discussion about their work. Refreshments will be served.
Dhara Mehrotra is a visual artist based out of Bangalore and holds an M.F.A in Painting from the College of Art, Delhi University, India. She is the recipient of the Swapan Biswas Award for Academic Excellence and the Junior Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She was also awarded the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCBS) fellowship along with an exhibition in Bangalore, and is part of the Facebook / Meta Artist In Residence (AIR) project in Hyderabad. Dhara’s work has been selected for exhibitions, including at the India Art Fair in New Delhi; Aicon Contemporary, New York; and The Anant Art, New Delhi; and has showcased her work at The Gulf Art Fair Dubai; ‘Museum Of Sacred Arts’ (MOSA) Belgium; Madrid (Spain); ‘The China Art Museum’ (Shanghai) and the University of California. Manjot Kaur is a Visiting Artist Fellow from Chandigarh, India. Her drawings, paintings, and time-based media attempt to decolonize both the sovereignty of ecology and women’s bodies. Her works explore what it means to be human, what it means to be non-human, and where these meanings rupture and collide. Manjot has been an artist in residence at Jan van Eyck Academie, Netherlands (2020-21); Fondazione Pistoletto, Italy supported by Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, India (2018); Khoj International Artists’ Association, New Delhi (2018), among others. In 2022, she received the “Generator Art Production Fund” grant from Experimenter Gallery, India. Her recent participations include “Where Shall We Plant The Placenta,” A Tale of A Tub, Rotterdam (2022); “Non- Fungible Speculations,” Nature Morte, New Delhi (2022); “The World Awaits You Like a Garden,” Latitude 28, New Delhi (2022); “Hurting and Healing – Let’s Imagine a Different Heritage,” Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2022), “Garden State,” Garage Rotterdam, Rotterdam (2021), among others.
