SUMMARY:Climate Coalitions with Andrea Guerrero Garcia
DESCRIPTION:
"Climate Coalitions with Andrea Guerrero Garcia, Director of Field Innovation at Growald Climate Fund."

"Climate Coalitions with Andrea Guerrero Garcia, Director of Field Innovation at Growald Climate Fund."

In 2009, the world of climate was in dismay. The Copenhagen COP, once deemed a "diplomatic disaster of epic proportions" was in the midst of falling apart when a small group of people from very different countries decided to meet in a small room. They dropped diplomatic etiquette and started speaking frankly. To their surprise, after two weeks of forcefully presenting hardened positions, in that room they discovered that in some cases they had similar views. What happened? Andrea Guerrero Garcia (at the time a Colombian negotiator) was one of these people. After the COP failure a few people got together to launch a new negotiation coalition that worked fundamentally differently from others: The Cartagena Dialogue. Andrea will tell us the inside stories of what happened and what we can learn about how climate coalitions function from that experience.

Andrea Guerrero García is a Senior Fellow at CPL's Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Collaboratory and the Director of Field Innovation at Growald Climate Fund. Guerrero García worked for the Colombian government for more than ten years, starting at the Ministry of Environment, where she led the country's climate policy development, and then in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director for Economic, Social and Environmental Multilateral Affairs.

Guerrero García led the Colombian delegation for the Paris Agreement and was a facilitator for one of its chapters. She then left government work to join Mission 2020 and the UN Secretary General's climate team and founded the Colombian NGO “Transforma". She has also been a consultant working for USAID, the EU, UN and LEDS GP on climate policy and diplomacy throughout her career.

Contact Anselm Dannecker at 617-485-4196 for more information.

Visit the event page for more information.
